PICKUP FROM KATHMANDU:
Begin your journey with a short drive of about 30 minutes from either Kalanki or Thankot to the Naagdhunga checkpoint, which serves as the common starting point for the hike.
BEGIN THE HIKE:
Kick off your adventure with a gentle uphill trek. The path starts paved, transitioning into charming village footpaths. As you walk, you’ll pass through beautiful pine and rhododendron forests, quaint Newari villages, and the staircases leading to the Bindabasini temple, approximately an hour in.
REACH INDRA DAHA (SACRED POND):
Take a moment to rest at the serene Indra Daha. The small temple and tranquil pond here are just a 10-minute detour from your main trail, offering a perfect spot to unwind.
SUMMIT AT KALU PANDE MEMORIAL PARK (~845 M):
Arrive at the historic site of the Kalu Pande Memorial Park, honoring General Kaji Kalu Pande. Explore the replica of the Manakamana Temple, the stone samadhi, and enjoy stunning views from the lookout tower over the Kathmandu Valley, as well as the Ganesh Himal, Langtang, Makwanpur, and Gorkha regions.
EXPLORE & LEARN:
Take your time wandering through the memorial park, where you can learn about Kalu Pande’s significant contributions to Nepal’s unification amidst a rich historical backdrop.
LUNCH:
Relish local cuisine at a nearby hillside restaurant, conveniently located around the park.
DESCEND VIA SWITZERLAND PARK:
Begin your descent along the trail that winds through agricultural terraces, leading you through the picturesque “Switzerland Park” picnic area, and passing by villages along the way and the Bindabasini temple.
REACH SITAPAILA/NAIKAP:
At the end of your hike, find your transport waiting to take you back into Kathmandu, a ride that typically lasts about 20 to 30 minutes.
