Kathmandu Valley is the historical and cultural heart of Nepal and has been a popular destination for tourists ever since Nepal opened its doors to visitors. The valley offers a wonderful mix of Hinduism and Buddhism. After breakfast, we visit UNESCO world heritage sites as one of the largest Hindu temples, Pashupatinath Temple, Bouddha Stupa, and Swayambhunath Stupa, followed by Kathmandu Durbar Square. Overnight stay at the hotel marks the end of the second day of the Tamang Heritage Trek.
On the third day of the Tamang Heritage Trek, after breakfast, we drive to SyabruBesi, which is 135 km from Kathmandu. The drive takes approximately 9 hours to reach SyabruBesi through the PasangLhamu Highway. Moving to our destination, we pass through several locations like Kakani (best known for its panoramic view of the great Himalayas of Nepal, hills, and Kathmandu city itself), Trishuli Bazaar, and Dhunche. The route will be accompanied by magnificent views of mountains such as Annapurna, Langtang, Gaurishankar, Ganesh, and Manaslu, and an opportunity to observe local villages, their people, and their lifestyle. Overnight at lodge in Syabrubesi.
After an hour and a half of ascending from Syabrubesi, we reach a viewpoint from where we can witness the fantastic views of Ganesh Himal, Gosainkunda rang, and the Goljang valley. Continuing the trek, we head down to Goljang valley, which is an hour’s walk downhill from the viewpoint. Gatlang, the beautiful Tamang village, is another three hours’ walk from Goljang. Upon arrival, we will be welcomed by Khada (white scarf) and homemade local drinks accompanied by the welcome song in the local language. We get refreshed and enjoy the local Syabru dance. Overnight stay at tea house lodge/ camp ends the fourth day of the Tamang Heritage Trek.
Today is the longest day of the entire trip. The trek begins by descending to Thangbuchet (near Chilime village) by the Bhotekoshi River. Chilime Hydropower dam is also situated here. After lunch, the trail ascends, crossing the hanging bridge. The trail continues until we reach Tatopani, which means ‘hot water. ’ We can immerse ourselves in natural hot springs with bathing areas in the lap of the mountains. Locals believe that the waters have a healing power that eases away our aches and pains. Overnight stay at tea house lodge/ camp.
From Tatopani, the trail ascends to Nagthali Danda – ha igh open grassland with amazing views of snow-covered Himalayas. After crossing Brimdang village, our trek continues to NagthaliDanda. From there, the route turns downhill to Thuman village- a Tibetan-influenced Tamang village with friendly people who love to sing and dance. Overnight stay at tea house lodge/ camp.
Leaving Thuman, we follow the path to get to Timure (an old trade route to Tibet), which takes approximately five hours. While trekking from Thuman to Timure, we can visit nearby historical Rasuwagadi and TibetoBurman on the way. Overnight stay at tea house lodge/ camp.
In Briddim, we can enjoy the cultural show performed by Briddim communities. Besides that, we can also experience a Tamang homestay to learn more about their cultures and traditions. Living and experiencing with Tamang communities, we get to know that Briddimis are inhabited by immigrant Tibetans. Houses in Briddim are roofed by stones. Overnight stay at tea house lodge/ camp.
The trail follows the descending path by crossing Wangel to get to SyabruBesi. En route we can enjoy the amazing hills and their landscapes. Overnight stay at tea house lodge/ camp.
Our trek journey ends at Syabrubesi, and we drive to Kathmandu by following the same highway, which takes approximately 8 – 9 hours. Overnight stay at hotel and remember the amazing memories during the Tamang Heritage Trek.
