The path offers spectacular views of Chamlang, Makalu, and Jaljale Himal, which makes our Makalu Base Camp Trek more memorable. We then descend a little to the next ridge and then follow the crest as it makes some ups and downs through a rhododendron forest to Chichila. Chichila has a teashop and a few houses inhabited by Gurung. Overnight stay at camp.

Overnight stay at camp ends on the seventh day of the Makalu Base Camp Trek.
DAY 08: Tashi Gaon to Kauma [3470m] | Two small streams, Kharka and Unshisha | 6 hrs |
We climb over the ridge and ascend through forests to a stream and onto a ridge where there is a small campsite. Again, we make a climb heading towards a shepherd’s hut – two small streams – Kharka (2,900 m) and finally up to a saddle and Unshisha. You then move over a hillock and descend a bit to reach Kauma. Overnight stay at camp.
DAY 09: Acclimatization in Kauma [3470m] | Observing the rare of Mt. Everest |
We take a complete rest at the camp. For acclimatization, we can explore the area for some interesting hikes and viewpoints. The most scenic walk would be taking a hike on the right side of the camp for a closer view of Mt. Makalu, Barun Pokhari, the rare face of Everest – the Kanshung face- and Lhotse, one of the best views during the Makalu Base Camp Trek. One hour of steep climb brings us to the large meadow where we can walk further up to have a greater view of the afore-mentioned and other peaks of the area. After exploring, we stroll back to the camp. Overnight stay at camp.
DAY 10: Kauma to Mumbuk [3570m] | Ascending steeply through large boulders to the Tutu La | 5 hrs

The trail then climbs gently as we approach Ripok Kharka. On the way, we can get excellent glimpses of Pyramid Peak, Peak 4, Chamlang, Peak 3, and Peak 5, but Makalu won’t be visible yet. Upon reaching Shershon (4,615m), the cold spot, Makalu, will come into sight. Overnight stay at camp.

Once we descend to a stream, we get terrific views of the southern face of Makalu, one of the prominent destinations of the Makalu Base Camp Trek. The large buttress of the southern face rises across from base camp. An ascent of this buttress yields views of Peak 6, Peak 7 and Baruntse (7,220m); ultimately Everest and Lhotse complete the panorama. Overnight stay at camp.

Today, we retrace our steps down the Barun Valley towards Neha Kharka. We take our last glimpse of Makalu before we move to our destination. However, we don’t miss a chance to observe other incredible peaks that come our way. Overnight stay at camp.
