DAY 01: Arrival in Kathmandu [1345m] | Welcoming the guests is our passion. |
Embarking on our Kanchenjunga South Base Camp Trek journey begins in Kathmandu, the city with the remarkable architecture dating back to the 16th Century. Our team representative from NTB Treks and Expeditions will welcome you at the Tribhuwan International Airport and escort you to your designated hotel. Our representative will help you check into the hotel. You will be accepted, facilitated, and served with a beautiful hotel room. The first arrival day is entirely a break day. Our guests can walk around nearby tourist hubs like Thamel and Basantapur Durbar Square in the evening.
DAY 02: Sightseeing in Kathmandu | the city of arts and architecture |
Kathmandu Valley is the historical and cultural heart of Nepal, with a rich artistic and cultural heritage, which is one of the prominent destinations of the Kanchenjunga South Base Camp Trek. Kathmandu has been one of the popular destinations for international tourists ever since Nepal opened its doors to visitors. The valley offers a wonderful mix of Hinduism and Buddhism. Right after having breakfast, we are off to visit one of the greatest Hindu temples- Pashupatinath- and Boudhanath Stupa. Overnight in Kathmandu marks the end of the Kanchenjunga South Base Camp Trek.
DAY 03: Fly to Biratnagar | 45 mins | the entrance point to a manifold of majestic destinations of Eastern Nepal |
On the third day of the Kanchenjunga South Base Camp Trek, right after breakfast, we board a flight to Biratnagar. Even during the entire flight, we can enjoy the panoramic sights of great Himalayas of Nepal including Mt. Everest (8,848m), Mt. Makalu (8,463m), Mt. ChoOyu(8,153m), Mt. Lhotse (8,501m), Mt. Lhotse Shar (8,393m), Kanchenjunga, Gaurishankar, Ganesh, Langtang etc. Upon reaching Biratnagar, we prepare for the forthcoming journey. Overnight at a hotel in Biratnagar.
DAY 04: Fly to Suketar | 30mins | [2420m] & Trek to Lali Kharka [2265m] |4-5hrs |
We take a short 30-minute flight to Sukhetar. Upon reaching Sukhetar, we hike around the Sukhetar village, and after some refreshment, we head to LaliKharka with the trekking crew. The trail will be accompanied by rich pastures and pristine settlements. After several descents for 2 – 3 hours, we arrive in LaliKharka. End of travelling for the fourth day of the Kanchenjunga South Base Camp Trek and overnight stay at a tea house/camp in LaliKharka.
DAY 05: Lali Kharka to Keswa [2120m] | Crossing a suspension bridge before beginning the steep climb | 5- 6 hrs |
After traversing the hillside for a short distance, we descend to the village of Pokara in the Phawa Khola, a must-visit village during the Kanchenjunga South Base Camp Trek, and then cross a suspension bridge before beginning the steep climb towards Kunjari. The afternoon’s walk takes us up over the crest of the ridge to our campsite at Keswa. From Keswa, we get our first view of Mt. Kanchenjunga, along with Mt. Yulung and other Himalayas as well. Overnight stay at the tea house/camp in Keswa.
Kanchenjunga South Base Camp Trek
DAY 06: Keswa to Mamanke [1785m] | Jannu, one of the most striking peaks in the region | 5- 6 hrs
From Keswa, we trek through pleasant terraced fields and traverse a steep mountainside high above the Kabeli Khola. Continuing the journey, we cross several villages like Funfun and continue along a shady path to Apan. We get to see the first distant view of Jannu (7710m), one of the most impressive peaks in the region. Eventually, we reach the prosperous village of Mamanke. Overnight at the tea house/camp in Mamanke.
DAY 07: Mamanke to Yamphudin [2080m] | We swim in a beautiful river | 4- 5 hrs |
After having breakfast in the early morning at the camp, our trek begins with an easy climb towards Yamphudin. The trail goes through the hillside above the Kabeli Khola, ridges, and streambeds. Along the way, we can stop to swim in one of the many clear pools in this beautiful river. Our ultimate destination for the day is Yamphudin, which is the most remote settlement in this region. Overnight at the tea house/camp in Yamphudin.
DAY 08: Yamphudin to Lamite Jungle Camp [2920m] |trail ascends & crosses OmjeKhola | 5- 6 hrs |
Leaving Yamphudin, the trail ascends to cross the Omje Khola. We walk through a beautiful and dense forest from where we can have fine views of the valley beyond Yamphudin to the south and of the Omje Khola Valley and Deorali Danda to the north. A steep descent to the river will bring us to our campsite in the Lamite forest. Overnight at the tea house/camp.
DAY 09: Lamite Jungle Camp to Torontan [3080m] | We ascend steeply for three hours through dense forests | 6- 7 hrs |
From the Lamite Jungle camp, we ascend steeply for three hours through dense forests to the crest of the Deorali Danda, which is the best destination to catch a glimpse of Mt. Jannu. Moving ahead, we descend to the valley of Simbukhola and upon crossing the bridge, we arrive in Torontan. Overnight at the tea house/camp in Torontan.
DAY 10: Torontan to Tseram [3870m] | The stunning views of snow-capped Himalayas and massive muzzle of Yalung glacier | 2- 3hrs |
In the early morning after having breakfast at the camp, we follow the path on the right bank of the river, and the path passes through the pine and rhododendron forests. From here, we have to make a steep climb to reach Tseram, which offers us the stunning views of snow-capped Himalayas and the massive muzzle of Yalung glacier. Overnight at the tea house/ camp in Tseram.
Kanchenjunga South Base Camp Trek
DAY 11: Tseram To Ramche [4580m] | Clear sights of Yalung glaciers | 3- 4 hrs |
Right after having breakfast, we trek for a couple of hours to reach the destination. As we ascend, we can see clear sights of Yalung glaciers, a series of ablation valleys, Kokthan, Rothong, and Kabru. Overnight at the tea house/camp in Ramche.
DAY 12: Ramche Exploration [4580m] | First close encounter with Kanchenjunga and Khumbakarna glacier |
Today is a rest day in Ramche. However, we can also hike around Ramche. From Ramche, we can have a first close encounter with Kanchenjunga and Khumbakarna glacier flowing from the east face of Jannu. Then we return to our campsite in Ramche. Overnight at the tea house/camp in Ramche.
DAY 13: Trekking Beyond the Mirgin La [4725m]
Leaving our Ramche campsite, we trek down the valley, passing the small settlement of Lapsang, before turning towards the Mirgin La – the pass we must cross to reach Gunsa and the north side of Kanchenjunga. As we descend from the Mirgin La, the views of Mt. Jannu accompany us with its magnificent views. Overnight at the tea house/camp in Mirgin La.
DAY 14: Mirgin La To Gunsa [3595m] | Crossing the jungle along Khambachen River | 6- 7 hrs |
We have to make a steep but easy descent from our campsite that brings us to Lamba Sumba Kharka, which offers more splendid views of the awesome southwest face of Jannu. The trail descends on an excellent route to the village of Gunsa. Overnight stay at camp.
DAY 15: Gunsa to Kyapra [2730m] | Kyapra, one of the Tibetan Villages | 5-6hrs |
From Gunsa, our journey moves up to Kyapra, which passes through the beautiful Gunsa and Tamur Kholas, spectacular forests of rhododendrons, conifers, birch, and oaks. The valley sides are steep, and the trail follows the river as it cascades downwards. Our accommodation will be arranged in Kyapra, one of the Tibetan villages. Overnight at the tea house/camp in Kyapra.
DAY 16: Kyapra to Sakathum [1600m]| A long, steep descent.. | 6- 7 hrs |
Heading towards the village of Sakathum, our route follows an undulating trail for the first couple of hours until we reach Amjilasa[2460m]. From here, there is a long, steep descent to where we can see the GunsaKhola Valley stretched out before us. Overnight at the tea house/camp in Sakathum.
DAY 17: Sakathum to Chirwa [1200m] | Chirwa, a pristine village | 4-5 hrs |
On the way to Chirwa, we come across the confluence of two rivers – Simbukhola and GunsaKhola at TamurKosi. On the way, we come across several other small tributary streams. After trekking for about 4 – 5 hours, we enter the pristine village of Chirwa. Overnight at the tea house/camp in Chirwa.
DAY 18: Chirwa to Phurumba [2000m] | Beautiful Valley, Phurumba | 4-5 hrs |
We follow the path to Phurumba by crossing the cultivated land and rich pastures. Then, our trail weaves through the path of steep stones. After making a climb for about four hours, you reach the destination for the day. Overnight at the tea house/camp in Phurumba.
Kanchenjunga South Base Camp Trek
DAY 19: Phurumba to Taplejung Suketar [2420m] | Exploring the traditional village life, cultural richness, and customs of local people | 6-7 hrs |
From Phurumba, we move towards Taplejung village by following an ascending path for about three hours. Upon reaching Taplejung, we observe and explore the traditional village life, cultural richness, and customs of the local people, which makes the Kanchenjunga South Base Camp Trek more interesting. After leisurely ascents for another two more hours, we finally reach the airstrip at Suketar, where we conclude the trip of the day. Overnight at a tea house in Suketar.
DAY 20: Fly to Kathmandu [45 mins] via Biratnagar [30 mins]
After breakfast, we will check in to the airport to board a flight to Biratnagar & then again take a flight to Kathmandu. Upon reaching Kathmandu airport, the guide will transfer you to the designated hotel. In the evening, you have free time for your interests. An evening farewell dinner will be organized at a Nepali restaurant. Overnight stay at the hotel and remember the amazing memories during the Kanchenjunga South Base Camp Trek.
DAY 21: Final Departure | Knowing how satisfied our guests are measured not only by how tight the goodbye hugs are, but by staying in touch with us forever.
This is the last day of your Kanchenjunga Base Camp Trek visit. You can enjoy shopping and buying souvenirs for friends and relatives. We will drop you off at the airport 3 hours prior to the departure time. The memories that you have shared with us matter a lot. Waving hands and goodbye hugs are just not enough, we tell our beloved guests to stay in touch with us. This is the way we feel satisfied with our services.
